Later that evening we attended the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art, Hats and Horses Gala, which is their spring fund-raising event. I set up a studio in the museum and photographed all the lovely ladies in their fancy hats (see thomanstudio.com for photos). There was lots of good food, mint juleps and a great band. Everyone had a great time.
We had a terrible storm hit the county a couple of weeks ago which uprooted and twisted apart many large trees. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The Madison Cultural Center lost four huge live oaks on their front lawn. Not sure how it happened, but none of the front lawn sculptures was damaged. I picked up several large pieces of the live oak to make bowls. The cultural center will probably use these as gifts or in fund raising auctions.
Got to spend part of a day photographing birds last week. We still have American goldfinches, house and purple finches, cardinals, pine siskins and downy and red-bellied woodpeckers, to name a few, hanging around. Also, our hummingbirds are back. They showed up in late March. It’s always nice to have those little guys buzzing around.
